Logging allows you to record vehicle data to file for offline viewing and analysis. Two types of logging are supported: Data Logging and CSV Logging. This article describes each logging type and includes instructions for configuring logging.
Logging settings are configured on the Settings > Preferences > Logging page.
Data Logging records PID responses from the vehicle to a log file in real-time. Data log files are stored in an efficient binary format that allows capturing a large number of data points in real-time with a relatively small file size (compared to CSV logging). Data logs can be played back when not connected to the vehicle, which allows you to record data to view at a later time while not connected to the vehicle, making it a very useful diagnostic tool.
This section describes the settings that are used to configure Data Logging.
Enabled globally enables or disables data logging.
Select PIDs opens the PID selector to configure which PIDs you want to log. PIDs that are selected here will always be logged, as long as they are supported by your vehicle.
Each PID that you add must be continuously monitored, which can reduce the refresh rate of other PIDs being monitored.
Logging Control configures how data logging is started. In Automatic mode, logging will automatically start when you connect to the vehicle and stop when you disconnect. In Manual mode, logging must be manually started, which provides more control over when data is logged. You can manually start and stop logging by pressing Menu > Start Data Logging on the Logs > Files page or by using a Push button dashboard gauge with the Start or Stop Data Logging action.
Log All PID Responses configures whether all PIDs that are read from the vehicle or only PIDs that are selected using Select PIDs are logged. When enabled, all PIDs that are read from the vehicle will be logged, which will include PIDs that are read when using dashboards, graphs, etc. PIDs will only be logged when they are being read unless they are selected using Select PIDs. Therefore, if you want PIDs to be logged over the entirety of log file, you should select them using Select PIDs.
Enabling this option can dramatically increase the log file size.
Data logs can be found on the Logs > Files page by selecting the data log icon:
![]()
Logs that were captured for the active vehicle will be visible. Press the Details button to view details about the log file, which includes a map of the vehicle route (if GPS Latitude and Longitude were logged) and information about which PIDs are included in the log file.
To Play the log file, press the Play button. Once playback is started, PIDs that were recorded to the log file are played back in the app as if you were reading them from the vehicle. If you go back to the main page, you will find the playback controls at the bottom of the page, which allow you to pause, stop, and fast forward playback. To view the PID values, open any page that displays PIDs, such as dashboards, graphs, etc. Only PIDs that were recorded to the log file will be played back, so if you are not seeing the value of a PID change, it might not have been recorded to file.
If you don't see any log files listed, make sure you select the vehicle that was active when the log file was captured.
The share button allows you to export the log file. You will be prompted to select whether you want to export the file directly or convert it to CSV (comma-separated value). Note that data log files cannot be opened in other applications.
CSV Logging records PID responses from the vehicle to a CSV file (comma-separated value). PID values are stored as plain text in CSV files, where each column represents one PID value and each row represents a collection of PID values.
You can open a CSV file in an external spreedsheet application such as Excel.
This section describes the settings that are used to configure CSV Logging.
Enabled globally enables or disables CSV logging.
Select PIDs opens the PID selector to configure which PIDs you want to log. Only PIDs that are selected will be logged, as long as they are supported by your vehicle.
Each PID that you add must be continuously monitored, which can reduce the refresh rate of other PIDs being monitored.
Logging Trigger configures when a row of data is written to the log file. The follow triggers are available:
Logging Control configures how CSV logging is started. In Automatic mode, logging will automatically start when you connect to the vehicle and stop when you disconnect. In Manual mode, logging must be manually started, which provides more control over when data is logged. You can manually start and stop logging by pressing Menu > Start CSV Logging on the Logs > Files page or by using a Push button dashboard gauge with the Start or Stop CSV Logging action.
Time Format configures the format used to write the time column to the CSV file. The first column in each row includes the time when the row was written to file. You can choose to write time as seconds from the start of the log file or as an absolute Date and Time.
Number of Decimals configures the number of decimal places used when writing each PID value.
CSV logs can be found on the Logs > Files page by selecting the CSV log icon:
![]()
Logs that were captured for the active vehicle will be visible. Select the log file to open the details view, which includes a map of the vehicle route (if GPS Latitude and Longitude were logged) and some information about the log file. The detail view allows you to open, share, or delete the file.
If you don't see any log files listed, make sure you select the vehicle that was active when the log file was captured.
To configure PIDs that you want to log, open the Settings > Preferences > Logging page. Graphing PIDs on the Logs > Graphing page does NOT control which PIDs are logged.
